After you have found a Live Display Picture you would like to use as your display picture right click the image with your mouse and select Save Picture As... from menu and save the image to your computer.
 

 
Next step is to open Personal Settings in your Windows Live Messenger and click the Change Picture button. My Display Picture window will open and all you have to do now is click the Browse button and open the image you saved to your computer.
